Restylane

A woman having facial injections (Rex Features)

Anti-ageing treatments of old took our baggy skin and pulled it taut to give a smoother, younger look, with the unfortunate side effect of making some look like they'd been caught in a wind tunnel.

Then we realised a way around this problem was to plump up the skin rather than pin it back, and a whole host of minimally invasive anti-ageing techniques began to surface.

Restylane - nicknamed the 'pillow face' procedure due to its plumped up effects in the cheeks - became popular with celebrities in the noughties, with many A-listers being rumoured to have tried it.

Restylane is a gel based on stabilised Hyaluronic Acid (HA) - a substance that naturally exists in the body. It can be used to reduce lines and wrinkles as well as to contour the face and create volume in areas like the lips and cheeks.

Like Botox, it's injected into the skin and can last up to six months.
